Extractions,
done gently

When the loss of a tooth, with comfortable and predictable dental extraction, is actually a gain - for your health.

Extractions in West London

Our neighbours in West London benefit from new teeth designed to look, feel, and function no differently than healthy natural teeth. But, as great as today’s restorations and tooth replacement options may be, a healthy natural tooth still reigns over advanced prosthetic teeth. For this reason, our team partners closely with you and your family to prevent the need for restorations or tooth replacement.

If teeth cannot be “saved” with root canal therapy or other interventions, it may be necessary to remove them - and we do so in the most gentle and precise ways possible.

Hammersmith questions

Questions
for us?

Will the extraction hurt?+

You shouldn’t feel pain during the extraction. We numb the area thoroughly with local anaesthetic first and check you are comfortable before we start - most people describe feeling pressure rather than pain. Afterwards there is usually some soreness for a few days, which is manageable with ordinary painkillers, and we will give you clear guidance on what to expect.

How long does it take to recover?+

Most people feel much better within three to four days, and the socket usually heals over in a week or two. A simple extraction tends to settle faster than a surgical one. Plan a quiet day afterwards if you can, avoid smoking and vigorous rinsing for the first 24 hours, and stick to soft food while the area is tender.

Can I go back to work afterwards?+

For a straightforward extraction, most people manage the rest of the day, though you may prefer not to. For a surgical extraction or a wisdom tooth, take the rest of the day off if you can and avoid anything strenuous for 48 hours. We will tell you honestly at your assessment which category your case falls into.

What can I eat after an extraction?+

Soft, cool foods for the first day or two - soup that isn’t hot, yoghurt, scrambled egg, mashed potato. Avoid anything crunchy, very hot or very spicy while the area is healing, and don’t use a straw for the first 24 hours, as the suction can dislodge the clot that is protecting the socket.

Do I need to replace the tooth afterwards?+

It depends which tooth it is. Back teeth can often be left without a replacement, but a gap towards the front affects both your appearance and, over time, how the surrounding teeth sit. We will talk through the options - a bridge, a denture, or leaving it as it is - and there is no pressure to decide on the day.

Do you remove wisdom teeth?+

We assess wisdom teeth and remove them where it is appropriate to do so. Some impacted cases are best handled in a hospital setting, and if yours is one of those we will tell you and arrange the referral rather than attempting it here.

How much does an extraction cost?+

An extraction starts from £350, and a complex or surgical extraction from £450. You will be given an exact price at your assessment, before anything is booked, and we will explain what is included.
