What are the denture options offered at our office?
Dentures are removable restorations for missing teeth and surrounding structures. Dentures are created from natural-looking prosthetic teeth mounted on a gum-coloured acrylic or metal base. Dentures can be either complete or partial.
Complete dentures: When you have lost teeth in an entire arch, the dentist will recommend complete dentures to restore your function and aesthetics. The denture restoration rests comfortably on the gums and is secured in place with adhesives or natural suction.
Partial dentures: Partial dentures are like full dentures, except they replace a few missing teeth and use the neighbouring teeth as anchors. How are dentures maintained?

Can you get dentures without going to the dentist in the UK?+
You can order dentures online or through direct denture providers, but we would strongly advise against it. Dentures need a precise fit to be comfortable and to work properly, and that comes from detailed impressions and measurements taken in person. Ill-fitting dentures cause soreness, make eating difficult, and can damage your gums and jawbone over time.
Can you eat with dentures?+
Yes, though it takes some adjusting. In the early weeks you will probably prefer softer foods while you learn to chew with them. Most people return to a varied diet, though sticky and very hard foods are always worth approaching with care. A well-fitted denture spreads the biting force evenly, which is what makes eating comfortable - so if yours doesn’t feel right, tell us rather than putting up with it.
How long does it take to make dentures?+
It depends on the type of denture and the complexity of your case, but typically four to six weeks, across several appointments for impressions, fittings and adjustments. Immediate dentures, fitted straight after extractions, can be prepared more quickly, but will need adjusting as your gums heal and settle. We will give you a realistic timeline at your assessment.
Can I have all my teeth removed and get a denture?+
Yes. This is sometimes necessary where there is extensive decay or advanced gum disease. We plan the extractions and the denture fitting together so the transition is as smooth as possible. Immediate dentures can be fitted on the same day as the extractions, though adjustments or a replacement set are usually needed once your gums have fully healed.
How long do dentures last?+
Typically five to ten years, depending on the material, the quality of the denture and how it is cared for. Your jaw and gums change shape over time, which affects the fit, so a denture may need relining before it needs replacing altogether. We check the fit at your appointments and will tell you when something needs doing.
Can you wear dentures permanently?+
Dentures are made for everyday wear, but they should come out at night so your gums and the soft tissue underneath get a rest. Wearing them continuously can cause irritation and fungal infections. Clean them properly and store them in water or a denture solution overnight - that protects both the denture and your mouth.
Do dentures fall out easily?+
A well-fitted denture shouldn’t. Modern designs sit securely, and an adhesive can add stability if you want the reassurance. If a denture slips while you are speaking or eating, that is a sign the fit has changed rather than something you need to live with - book in and we will adjust it.
