Beyond traditional metal braces - Dr Chaw-Su Kyi offers discreet Clarity™ ceramic braces and the comfort and convenience of the innovative Damon™ System.
As an orthodontist, Dr Chaw-Su Kyi has the advanced training and onsite capabilities to offer many treatment options beyond “traditional” fixed braces. Dr Kyi may recommend Clarity™ Advanced Ceramic Braces or the Damon™ System, another “twist” on conventional braces from her dental studios in West London.
Clarity™ braces by 3M™ are the only type of clear ceramic braces that Dr Kyi trusts, and her patients deserve the absolute best! Their translucent brackets are designed to blend in seamlessly when you smile, and since they’re easier to see, they’re also easier to clean throughout treatment.
“These braces are virtually undetectable in the smile.”

If Dr Kyi determines this treatment is appropriate, it will only take one visit to fit the braces. Teeth are cleaned and “prepared” with a clear liquid to ensure a strong bond. The brackets are then set with a curing light. Once set, the wire is inserted along the clear brackets.
The process only takes about 20 minutes. There is no downtime, though we will discuss ways to adjust to your new braces before the appointment.
It is not unusual to feel a mild, dull ache. The brackets may rub up against tissues. These concerns can be relieved with mild painkillers and a complimentary “wax” product.
Dr Kyi may discuss and explore the Damon™ System during a full orthodontic consultation. This type of brace represents one of the most incredible technological advancements in orthodontics: self-ligating braces.
“This approach allows the teeth to move freely.”

Unlike conventional non-removable braces, elastics are needed to hold the wire in place - typically meaning adjustment visits every six to eight weeks.
The wire moves effortlessly from the outset, repositioning teeth slightly faster with fewer visits - Dr Kyi generally only sees patients every 10 to 12 weeks.
Most every orthodontic case is suitable for the Damon™ braces treatment. In fact, Dr Kyi has successfully treated hundreds of cases this way. Her patients also appreciate that it is easier to clean these smaller brackets without elastics getting in the way.
As with the Clarity™ system, our teams will review after-care considerations for Damon™ treatment, including foods to avoid due to the risk of breakage. Call with questions or to request a full orthodontic consultation at one of our two dental studios in West London today.

Yes, fixed braces come in several types: metal, ceramic (tooth-colored), and self-ligating. Metal braces are durable and effective for complex corrections, while ceramic braces offer a more discreet appearance. Self-ligating braces use special clips instead of elastic bands, potentially reducing treatment time. Your orthodontist will recommend the type based on your dental needs, budget, and preferences. Each option has unique benefits, so understanding these differences ensures you make an informed decision.
Some discomfort is common after getting braces or during adjustments. Patients may experience soreness as teeth begin shifting into alignment. Over-the-counter pain relievers and orthodontist-recommended wax can alleviate irritation from brackets or wires. Eating soft foods and using orthodontic-friendly tools, like water flossers, also helps during the initial days. The discomfort typically subsides within a week, and the long-term benefits outweigh these temporary challenges. Maintain open communication with your orthodontist to prioritise your comfort throughout treatment.
Absolutely! Fixed braces are highly effective for adults looking to correct misaligned teeth or bite issues. Advances in orthodontics make treatments more comfortable and discreet, such as ceramic braces for minimal visibility. While adult bones are fully developed, making adjustments slightly slower, fixed braces still deliver excellent results. Orthodontic care at any age improves oral health, functionality, and aesthetics, boosting confidence. Consultation with an orthodontist determines the best treatment plan tailored to your needs.
Fixed braces are ideal for addressing complex orthodontic issues, such as severe crowding, overbites, underbites, and crossbites. The system of brackets and wires provides precise control over tooth movement, allowing orthodontists to make detailed adjustments. This level of control ensures accurate alignment and long-lasting results. For intricate cases, fixed braces remain a trusted solution, as they efficiently address dental challenges that other systems, like clear aligners, may struggle to correct. Your orthodontist will guide you through the process.
If a bracket or wire breaks, contact your orthodontist immediately to schedule a repair. While waiting for your appointment, you can use orthodontic wax to cover sharp edges and prevent injury. Avoid fixing the appliance yourself, as this may cause further damage. Broken components can delay treatment progress, so prompt attention is essential. Regular check-ups and avoiding hard or sticky foods help prevent such issues. Your orthodontist ensures repairs are swift and effective.
Depending on your treatment plan, follow-up visits typically occur every 4–8 weeks. The orthodontist adjusts wires, replaces elastics, and monitors progress during these appointments. These adjustments are crucial for guiding teeth into their ideal positions. Regular visits also ensure early detection of any issues, such as loose brackets or oral hygiene concerns. Sticking to the scheduled appointments is vital for maintaining progress and achieving the desired outcome within the estimated treatment timeline.
Yes, fixed braces are highly effective for correcting bite issues, including overbites, underbites, open bites, and crossbites. The system of brackets and wires exerts controlled pressure on teeth and jaws to improve alignment. In some cases, additional appliances, like rubber bands or expanders, may be used alongside braces to achieve optimal results. Correcting bite issues enhances aesthetics, improves chewing efficiency, and reduces jaw strain. Consultation ensures a customised plan to address your specific bite concerns.
